Arguilla Italy – International Ceramic Festival 2016

I had an amazing time in Faenza at the Arguilla International Ceramic Festival in September. It was a huge and varied gathering of ceramicists, ceramic demonstrations, companies specializing in ceramic materials and tools, and ceramics enthusiasts.

It was very rewarding to see my work in a high quality exhibition of crackling glaze pieces as part of the overall festival and to take part in this fabulous event. I had a lot of stimulating conversations with ceramicists from many parts of the world.

One of my talented HCC ceramics students, Lesley Scoble, has been this year the winner of the V&A Inspired by… exhibition 2016.

Lesley commented: “I couldn’t have done it without Maria A Echenique as my tutor

Lesley’s sculpture, Walking in the Rain was selected by Victoria and Albert Museum curators as one of 90 new works of art and craft by adult learners, inspired by pieces from the V&A’s collections.

The works on display include textiles, fashion and jewellery through to sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, painting, and digital media.

Emmajane Avery, Director of Learning and Visitor Experience at the V&A said: “The exhibition presents an excellent, high-quality snapshot of creative practice amongst adult learners.”
